The 143rd Royal Photographic Society Awards Winners Announced

At 7pm on October 26, the winners for the Royal Photographic Society Awards 2021 were announced.


Now in it's 143rd year, the RPS awards is the world's longest and most prestigious photography accolades.


Celebrating innovation and excellence, this years awards showcase new and emerging talent from eighteen different categories.


Let's take a look at some of the winning images.

Katie Bouman © Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration

Katie Bouman received the Progress Meal for her scientific and technical advancement in photographic imaging.


Being involved in the International Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration in April 2019 led to the first image of a black hole, 53.5 million light-years away.

Recipient of the Centenary Medal, Bruce Davidson, has been a member of Magnum Photos since 1958.


Winning the award for his sustained and significant contribution to photography, Davidson is admired for his intimate photo-essays and the documentation of counter-culture communities.

Dexter McLean, recipient of the Hood Medal, is a photographer with cerebral palsy, whom advocates for the disabled community through his portrait and documentary work.

With her brilliant self-portraits exploring personal history, heritage, and origins, Silvia Rosi received the Vic Odden Award.


The Vic Odden Award recognises notable achievements within the art of photography by individuals aged 35 or under.

Photographer and filmmaker Tyler Mitchell received the Editorial, Advertising, and Fashion Photography Award for his work exploring and documenting a new aesthetic of Blackness.
